Paradise Upper West Foothills and Lowlands

This is one of the most famous destinations for birdwatching and photography tours in Ecuador

From the city of Quito we will go through the central mountains towards the west and will have the opportunity to see fantastic birds, including one of the rarest and certainly the best endemic of Ecuador, the famous Black-Breasted Puffleg, which is now critically endangered. We will also have the opportunity to observe many more species which are difficult to encounter in the other parts of the world.

Continuing our journey, we will go to the famous Mindo area where we will be staying for five days in nice Lodge with the own reserve. This private reserve was created more than 15 years ago. It is dedicated to protecting an important area of the western slope of the Andes. This is the most central and strategic point to visit of any of the birding areas. Here we will have the opportunity to find rare species like Tanager Finch, Orange-breasted Fruiteater, Black Solitare, Hoary Puffleg, Indigo Flower Piercer, Pacific Tuftedcheeck along with a large number of species of the western slope of the Andes.

As a bonus, we will visit La Paz bird reserve where we expect fascinating birding! The man behind the reserve is called Angel Paz, who has devoted years of his life to befriend birds. Here we will meet Maria (Giant Antpitta), Shakira (Ochre-breasted Antpitta), Pepito (Rufous-breasted Antrush), Shushan (Moustached Antpitta) and more of these lovely birds.

Another reserve that we will visit is the Milpe reserve which gives us another show of the famous leck of Club-winged Manakin. We will also visit the Long-wattled Umbrella bird leck where we will also observe other species such as Black Solitair, Orange-breasted Fruiteater, Pacific Tuftedcheek and many more species.

Then we descend to the lowlands to visit Canande reserve which offers a variety of endemic birds such as the Olive Backed Quail Dove, Tawny-faced Quail, Golden-chested Tanager, and with luck, the Banded ground-cuckoo , Black-tipped Cotinga, and many more species .
